Florida Internet Sex Crimes
Smartphones, computers, and tablets have become part of our everyday lives, which is why internet sex crimes have dramatically increased in recent years. Online sex crimes generally involve arranging in-person meetings and activity or the possession, sale, or sharing of prohibited digital images or recordings.
Our firm handles the following types of internet sex crimes:
- Child pornography – Knowingly possessing, viewing, or otherwise controlling a photo or video of a minor engaging in any sexual conduct is a third-degree felony, which carries a maximum prison term of five years.
- Online solicitation of a minor – Knowingly seduce, solicit, entice, lure, or attempt to do any of those things to get a minor to participate in sexual activity is a third-degree felony.
- Traveling to meet a child – Traveling or attempting to do so in order to engage in a sexual act with a minor is a second-degree felony, punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years.
- Lewd or lascivious conduct – This offense means intentionally masturbating, exposing genitals in a sexual or offensive manner, or otherwise committing a sexual act by using an online service to be viewed by a minor under 16 years old. If the offender is at least 18 years of age, then it is a second-degree felony. If the offender is under 18, then it is a third-degree felony.
In addition to a lengthy prison sentence and a fine worth thousands of dollars, a conviction will also result in registration as a sex offender. Furthermore, if the offense occurred in multiple states or you crossed state lines to allegedly commit a crime, then you may be subject to federal charges, which can lead to harsher penalties, including years spent in a federal prison.
